ABOUT THE WORK
THE SKETCHBOOK WORK: These are observational open air works of common coastal Maine
subjects that are beginning ideas for larger works. They range from incomplete to more finished,
all with a common visual interest: light, space and structure through color All begin with a curious observational interest in subjects and are often left in a semi-finished yet complete state. They
represent aspects of my painting interests that are synthesized into the larger studio work.
THE STUDIO WORK: The studio works evolve slowly over time from the observational painting experiences of the sketchbook works. They require a highly refined use of watercolor skills that strive to achieve luminous imagery that represent places in time that are timeless.
The images shown here are examples of the stages of development of the observational works.
